My DMC 30012 is was formally working OK. I updated the firmware, some strange issues started occurring "Variable error Line 751.0000 before abort modified CMDERR"

Now the controller is no longer visible in Galil tools and the error light is on. have tried a master reset.

no joy!

any help appreciated

thanks.

Hello Colin,

This sounds like a failed firmware download. There are a few reasons the red error LED will illuminate, one of which is due to just this.

In order to recover you'll need a straight through Serial cable in order to communicate with the controller via RS-232 or USB-serial converter at 115200 baud. The steps to recover from a failed firmware download are as follows:

  1. Remove power to the controller.
  2. Install a jumper on the Upgrade Jumper header (labeled UG in the jumper bank on the side of the controller).
  3. Restore power to the controller.
  4. Open GalilTools or GDK and connect to the COM port corresponding to the controller at 115200 buad (this is the default setting for this controller).
  5. Open a terminal and hit enter, instead of the standard ':' response to a carriage return, you should instead see a '>' returned. This indicates that you are connected and communicating with the controller OS.
  6. Re download the firmware that you previously attempted.
  7. Once the download is complete, remove power to the controller, remove the Upgrade jumper and restore power.

You should now be able to communicate with your controller over serial. You'll need to reassign an IP address in order to communicate over Ethernet.
