How much does acceleration affect stepper motors? Specifically, can a person actually see the difference between a minimum and maximum setting, or does it all happen in less than half a second?
Additionally, I'm having some trouble running a stepper motor rig at low speeds. It more or less works but is hard on the motors. I'm trying to run them at a range of SP = ~200-900 but outside 400-700 they are noisy and less stable. KS helps somewhat but the speed needs to change a lot and I'm not sure how much smoothing I can add without interfering with those changes. Acceleration is as low as it'll go and the movement is still jarring at times.

Hi FlagrantLiar,

The AC and DC commands will affect acceleration and deceleration for a stepper motor, the same as a servo motor. Stepper motors have different operating characteristics than servo motors. They have an inherent resonance that can be excited at specific speeds.

Are you operating with half step, full step, or microstepping?
